Whatley Quarry Consultation

Please see attached an invitation to one of our public drop-in events to set out our proposals to access additional mineral reserves within the existing boundary of Whatley quarry and extend the timeframe for extraction.

Our proposals would secure Whatley’s long-term future by supporting the continued extraction of permitted but constrained reserves, as well as releasing additional material by reprofiling and deepening sections of the quarry and extending the quarry’s end date to 2055.

If approved, it would allow us to make the best use of available reserves at Whatley quarry. Activity would be limited to within the existing site boundary so, beyond the quarry gate, it would be business as usual and our neighbours would see little change.

We are holding three public drop-in events, plus an online event, to provide locals with the opportunity to learn more about our proposals and provide feedback. The events are open to all, and the invitation is currently being delivered to homes within an approximate 5km radius of the site. Please feel free to share this with your contacts as appropriate.

All information shared at the events will also be posted to our dedicated community website: heidelbergmaterials.co.uk/whatley/future. Members of the public will be able to submit feedback either at the event or online afterwards. After reviewing the feedback on our current plans, we will finalise our proposals before submitting a planning application to Somerset Council. The council will then consult with statutory bodies and invite comments from residents before making its decision.
